Bronny James

LeBron Raymone "Bronny" James Jr. (born October 6, 2004) is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He previously played college basketball for the USC Trojans and was a consensus four-star recruit. In 2023, James was named a McDonald's All-American during his senior year of high school. After playing one season at USC, he was selected by the Lakers with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft, making him and his father, LeBron James Sr., the first active father-son duo in NBA history.

### Early Life and Career

Bronny James was born in Akron, Ohio, to NBA star LeBron James and Savannah Brinson. He was raised by both parents, who married in 2013. From an early age, Bronny played multiple sports, including basketball and soccer, though his father discouraged him from playing football or ice hockey due to safety concerns. By age 10, Bronny’s basketball highlights were gaining national attention, and he played for several youth teams, including Miami City Ballers and North Coast Blue Chips, where he played alongside other notable players like Mikey Williams.

Bronny's basketball career took off in middle school, where he led his team at Old Trail School to an Independent School League tournament win. In 2018, he enrolled at Crossroads School in Santa Monica, California, where he scored 27 points in his debut. That same year, he joined the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) and played with the Strive for Greatness team.

### High School Career

In 2019, Bronny transferred to Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles, joining a star-studded team that featured the sons of NBA stars LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. He made his high school debut in November 2019 and quickly earned attention by winning MVP honors in a game against his father’s alma mater, St. Vincent–St. Mary High School.

Over his high school career, Bronny showed steady improvement, despite setbacks such as a torn meniscus during his sophomore season. By his senior year, he took on a leadership role, guiding his team to a 23-11 record while averaging 14.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. His performance earned him selections to prestigious events like the McDonald's All-American Game and the Nike Hoop Summit.

### College Career

Bronny committed to play college basketball for USC in 2023, turning down offers from Ohio State and Oregon. However, in July 2023, he suffered a cardiac arrest during a practice session due to a congenital heart defect but made a full recovery. He returned to action in December 2023 and played 25 games for USC, averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.

### Professional Career

In the 2024 NBA Draft, Bronny was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 55th overall pick, joining his father as the first father-son duo to play together in the NBA. He made his NBA Summer League debut in July 2024 and officially played alongside his father for the first time in an October 2024 preseason game against the Phoenix Suns.

### Playing Style

At 6 feet 1.5 inches, Bronny plays both point guard and shooting guard. His strengths lie in his shooting, especially in catch-and-shoot situations, and his defense, where he has been praised for his intensity and anticipation. While he lacks size compared to other NBA players with similar skill sets, he is regarded as a high-IQ player and a willing passer. Analysts have compared him to players like Jrue Holiday, Lonzo Ball, and De'Anthony Melton.

### Personal Life

Bronny's godfather is NBA All-Star Chris Paul. He has also been involved in esports, signing with FaZe Clan in 2020, where he streams games like *Fortnite* and *Call of Duty*. His social media presence is substantial, and he has capitalized on his name, image, and likeness (NIL), signing deals with brands such as Nike and Beats by Dre.

In his professional career, Bronny chose to wear the number 9 jersey in honor of the late musician Juice WRLD.
